On-line Vibration Monitoring

The PROTOR Vibration Condition Monitoring System provides reliable on-line condition monitoring of Turbine Generator, Main Boiler Feed Pumps and other auxiliary plant equipment.

Without the health information that a vibration condition monitoring system can provide on equipment such as turbines, pumps and associated equipment, impending faults go unnoticed and develop into a condition that results in failures. Failures may lead to unscheduled outages or more serious equipment damage with consequent loss of revenues.

PROTOR condition monitoring consists of one or more Remote Measurement Data Acquisition Systems (RMDAS) linked by Ethernet. Typically an RMDAS unit is used for condition monitoring of the vibration and other parameters of an individual main turbine or a number of pumps or fans. PCs or workstations on the network may then use the simple and intuitive PROTOR User Interface to view data and make reports.

With PROTOR, operators and experts are better able to detect problems such as:

  • Shaft unbalance
  • Shaft rubs
  • Shaft bowing
  • Bearing faults
  • Misalignment
  • Shaft cracking
  • Looseness of rotating elements
  • Casing Distortion
  • Whirl problems
  • Balance piston rubs
  • Damaged sealing strips
  • Generator shorts
  • End winding vibrations
  • Blade response
  • Hub cracking
  • Foundation Distortion

PROTOR vibration condition monitoring supports the following:

  • Analyse bearing performance
  • Examination of critical modes
  • Data comparison at know speeds
  • More reliable trends
  • Ability to set up more accurate limits
  • Examination of blade frequencies
  • FFT processing of run-up/rundowns
  • Historical data storage
  • Better control of machine start-up
  • Statistical reports on History data

Some of the benefits coming form PROTOR use are:

  • Higher global efficiency of machine as operation time is increased
  • Continuous information of real status of the machine used for predictive maintenance actions
  • Increase of life time of system
  • Decrease of maintenance and repair costs
  • Avoid unscheduled outages
  • Improved data access as they are available at your office desk

The P4700 provides Ethernet TCP/IP connection with the control and data analysis desk allowing the hardware to be close to the system and thus minimizing sensors cables length and noise.

There are up to 32 channels per chassis and multiple chassis connection is also possible to increase inputs channels. Signal Conditioning is available for most of existing sensors.
